I could not find any technical thread so this will do.

I get an "Error 193: %1 is not a valid Win32 application" when I start up minecraft.

    Somebody help.

Have you tried deleting your minecraft folder (save your maps obviosuly), and re-installing Minecraft from scratch?

Some more info relating to Minecraft:

Ah this was kind of an old thread, I do recall since then a few cases where a "path error" occured when a player had a windows login with a nonstandard character, such as

    C:\Users\myname!\

and the exclamation point meant that windows couldn't find the java installation. If your windows login might have something like that, try creating a test login account for windows (Control Panel\User Accounts) and see if creating a login without any odd characters helps.

I assume since this is a brand new try at Minecraft, that there are no playermade mods?

It might also be some quirky issue with using a 64-bit version of java, do you have a 32-bit browser that you can test with at java.com to see if you also have a 32-bit java version? )I think I have both on mine)

    I keep seeing
    1. Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT and click OK.
    2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    then SYSTEM
    then CurrentControlSet
    then Services
    then ServiceName

But what service should I modify?
