    They're never pointless. They allow those involved, as well as those observing, to better understand both sides of the matter being discussed and to allow those in the debate to think through and formulate their opinions. It is practicing communication skills and persuasive arguments, both of which are important and very useful.

    Just to share a video I found interesting, really. I was joking with my comment on derailers, I just found it funny that the thread drifted towards debating, despite the fact that the video has nothing to do with it.
